An interactive public peace monument celebrating our shared humanity

I invite you to glimpse into the heart of the making process in my Cape Town studio. From 3D scanning and sculpting to refining forms and beginning the mould-making stage, these behind-the-scenes images capture the evolution of a monument shaped by love, intention, and the many professional and generous beings who helped bring it to life — including Carol Surya, Ruth Shaw, and the Goliath family featured here.

Also featured is Vicki Norcliffe, my former portrait teacher, with whom I had the privilege of collaborating. Her artistic mastery and finely attuned eye helped shape the portraits so that each face and gesture radiates empathy and humanity. Originally from the UK and now based in Cape Town, Vicki is an outstanding portrait artist whose work captures the quiet poetry of the human spirit. Exhibited internationally, her art is celebrated for its sensitivity, presence, and depth of feeling. Her contribution to the Circle of Compassion project brought an extraordinary level of precision and emotional insight to the figures, ensuring they embody both likeness and compassion.
